Organizations are often described through abstractions: strategy, culture, technology, performance, transformation. Underneath them are people, resources and the things we create, use and organize. And perhaps more importantly, the relationships between them.

Hito-Kane-Mono is a place for essays about those relationships.

The subjects will vary: organizations and leadership, data and artificial intelligence, higher education, research and innovation, institutions, decision-making, and occasionally observations that do not fit neatly into any of those categories.

The aim is not to produce a constant stream of content. It is to give ideas enough space to be developed properly — including ideas that are exploratory, incomplete or worth revisiting later.

About the author

Hito-Kane-Mono is written by Dieter Joenssen, a professor, data scientist and organizational leader whose work has crossed academia, industry, consulting and institutional leadership.

His interests sit particularly at the intersections between data and decisions, people and organizations, research and application, and systems and the incentives they create.

Hito-Kane-Mono is his independent space for longer-form writing.
